DROOL: When do you feel you first found success in the world of art, and how have you grown since then?
Eva: I first found my success in the world of art around 2 years ago. Not long after I received my Illustration bachelor I was scouted by Clavis Publishing. They wanted me to illustrate and write my own creature book for them. That book is called: The Wonderful World of Eva and has been published in Dutch in 2021. The English version will be available in June of 2022. Since the creation of my book my art has greatly improved. Quite recently I have been asked by multiple galleries to exhibit my work. I am also currently working on a new and exciting project that I can`t share just yet.
DROOL: How did you discover your voice in art?
Eva: By joining an Inktober challenge called Mabsdrawlloweenclub in 2018. It is hosted by Mab Graves every year during the whole month of October. Every day you have to make something with a certain theme (most themes are monster Halloween related). During that month I really pushed myself to make an artwork every day and gained a lot of followers.
The art academy never really liked my monsters but after joining that challenge I discovered that a lot of people online did! As soon as I left the academy and started to do what I loved I found my artistic voice.
DROOL: What compels you to keep driving forward as an artist? How do you aspire to grow as an artist this year?
Eva: Ever since I was little I have had the extreme urge to create art and tell stories. This is the driving force behind my artistic career. I just can`t stop hahaha.
This year I want to focus more on traditional art. I love traditional and digital painting but I want to push myself more in the direction of traditional. I am very fast digital and I want to create traditional paintings at the same speed.
DROOL: Anything else you want to share with the dog-loving humans of Earth?
Eva: Treat your dogs like family. Because they are. Last year we lost one of our dogs and it still hurts. Treasure them while you still can!

DROOL: What about dogs attracts you to them as subjects for your artwork?
Eva: I absolutely adore dogs. Although I myself am deadly allergic to them. Since my childhood, our family has had Labradoodles but those are anti-allergic. But that unfortunately doesn`t mean I am not allergic to them. I have to take pills and asthma medicine when I visit my dog. But honestly, it is 100 percent worth it. I think I like to paint dogs because of my allergies. I want to show my love for these creatures even when I can`t pet most of them. And what is a greater appreciation is there than creating art! Also, they are super cute to paint.
DROOL: Which do you prefer: dogs or people, and why?
Eva: Dogs! Easy. We as humans don’t deserve dogs.
DROOL: If you had to choose one dog breed to characterize who you are, what breed would it be and why?
Eva: Definitely a brown labradoodle or toy poodle. My entire feed is filled with cute videos and pictures of these adorable creatures. I have been on the lookout to buy one of these fluffballs myself. I don`t care that I have to take allergy pills every day they are way too adorable to not get one.
I also have to admit I have taken online quizzes to look at what kind of dog breed I would be and the result is always a poodle or labradoodle. I think this is because it is the only dog I am allowed to pet without protective gear and that is why I am naturally drawn to them.
